Meteor Orientation for Leonids in 1999
As the notice for the expected great activity of the Leonids in 1999,Meteor Orientations to the public were held at many sites in Japan.
These Orientations were held at totally 14 sites in which includes 5 sites related by AMOTA.
This type of Meteor Orientation has been continuously held from 1981 by AMOTA still as our contribution to the public. In this year, more visual Orientations with planetarium equipment, photo slide, VTR and CG were held. The Meteor Orientations operated or assisted by AMOTA
were as below. Each ( ) means the number of participants.
1. Ibaraki area (10)
Location : Ibaraki Pref. Southern Lifelong Study Center, Tsuchiura
Date : 31st October
Promoted by NMS, cooperated by AMOTA.
As the 2nd Orientation in Ibaraki, 10 number of public were joined, by whom the orientation was well received.
2. Saitama area (37)
Location : Kawaguchi-City Pupils Culture Center, Kawaguchi
Date : 31st October
Promoted by Kawaguchi-City Pupils Culture Center and AMOTA.
The 2 stages were given to the program. The first stage was the lecture of the expected activity concerning Leonid Meteor Shower in this some years using planetarium equipment, another was the explanation and discussion for the method to observe Leonids.
3. Atsugi area (25)
Location : Atsugi-City Science Museum for Children, Atsugi
Date : 24th October
Promoted by Atsugi-City Educational Committee, cooperated by AMOTA.
There has been the same Orientation in this 3 years in Atsugi. The Meteor Orientation was deeply interested.
4. Yokohama area (129 excludes staff)
Location : Yokohama-City Science Center
Date : 6th November
Promoted by Yokohama-City Science Center and AMOTA.
The lecture named " Leonids Meteor Shower Again" was held with planetarium equipment as same as last 2 years.
5. Sagamihara area (130)
Location : Sagamihara-City Museum
Date : 13th November
Promoted by Sagamihara-City Museum and cooperated by AMOTA.
The lectures like as Yokohama site were held.
